Multan Sultans Sold for Record Price, Team Name Likely to Change to Rawalpindi
The Pakistan Super League franchise Multan Sultans has been sold for a record price ahead of the 11th edition of the PSL. The team was bought by Walee Technologies for Rs. 2.45 billion during an auction held in Lahore.
This is the highest amount ever paid for a PSL franchise. The winning amount also includes the ownership fee for the next 10 years, which means Walee Technologies will control the team for a long period.

Team Name Expected to Change
During the auction ceremony, Walee Technologies’ CEO Ahsan Tahir surprised everyone by announcing that the team’s name may change.
He revealed that the franchise will likely be renamed after Rawalpindi, instead of continuing with the name Multan Sultans. This announcement received strong attention from fans and cricket officials.
PCB Chairman Shares His Views
Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Mohsin Naqvi congratulated Walee Technologies for winning the bid. He also praised former PCB chairman Najam Sethi, who played an important role in launching the Multan Sultans franchise back in 2017.
Mohsin Naqvi said that it would not be fair to force the new owners to keep the old name after paying such a large amount. However, he added that Multan Sultans is very close to his heart, and the PCB will try to find a respectful solution regarding the brand.
Why the Franchise Was Auctioned
Multan Sultans became available after the PCB decided not to renew the contract of the previous owner, Ali Khan Tareen, in November last year. After that, the PCB temporarily took control of the franchise and later announced an open auction.
According to the PCB chairman, the starting price was set by comparing it with earlier PSL franchise sales, including the Sialkot team.
A Successful PSL Journey So Far
The Multan Sultans franchise started its PSL journey in 2017 and took part in eight straight seasons of the league. The team achieved its biggest success in 2021, when it won the PSL title.
Over the years, Multan Sultans built a strong fan base and became one of the most competitive teams in the tournament.
About Walee Technologies
Walee Technologies is a global company working in media, finance, and technology sectors. The company has already been involved with the PSL before, as it previously acquired livestreaming rights for the tournament.
With this new ownership, fans are now waiting to see how the franchise evolves, especially if the name officially changes to Rawalpindi in the upcoming PSL season.
